My Story

I would love to say I have had a passion for parrots since I was very young; but that would be a lie...

My first experience of a parrot was my sister's budgies who I, vaguely remember, let out of their cage and out the window when I was 6 years old.

My dad brought home a parrot from a lady at the post office who we gave an unhealthy diet of sunflower seeds, peanuts and the occasional bit of fruit to. I let him take food from my mouth.

I thought I was the best parrot owner ever.

Then, after we rehomed him, several years later I was thoroughly annoyed by how loud my mum's budgies were.

A year later one got poorly,

That's when the spark of passion was lit,

Suddenly I felt I had a purpose

Since 2019 I have learnt so much, researched so much and experienced so much through my MSc in Animal Behaviour and Welfare, alongside a background in Psychology and counselling, and mentorships which put my past interacts with parrots to shame.

But there is no shame. There is only acting with the tools of which we have available and information we have at the time.

Which is why raising awareness to parrot welfare as much as and as wide as possible is the only way we can educate others to not make the same mistakes or even learn from those mistakes.

We can't change a parrot's past.

But we can change their future.
